Abstract:
As a subject of media coverage, crimes may be considered a part of the media agenda, a matter of priority, showing constant interest to this subject. This interest comes due to the violent content, through which crimes are projected in the public space and to the sensational and negative character of media reports about crimes, having a direct impact on the public, causing certain psychological feelings and generating strong and long-lasting effects. That is why, the role of media institutions in reflecting crimes and in shaping the perceptions and attitudes of social individuals in relation to them is undeniable. Or, in the collective thinking, the media continues to be associated with a forum for debating values, behaviors and ideals worth following. Precisely for these reasons, the media in general and journalists in particular have a duty to approach the subject about crime very responsibly, showing accuracy in presenting the facts and objectivity in issuing value judgments.
