fonetică a limbii române.
A series of rules were set up in the studies of historical phonetics of the
Romanian language that were broadly accepted by those who investigated the evolution
of the vowel system. The disappearance of the category of duration is unanimously considered as the most important change of this system. The loss of the opposition between
the long and the short vowels represents a restructuring of the vowel system and a key to solving a whole range of problems in historical phonetics. This paper analyses several
aspects of the ě (short Latin e) vowel evolution and the impact of this evolution on the phonetic structure of the Romanian language.
