Armenians, established to live from more distant times orsomething closer to the Moldovan and Polish spaces showed an entrepreneurial spirit in the field of handicrafts and trade. Armenian merchants played an important role in the Moldovan-Polish economic relations in the second half of the eighteenth century, also contributing directly to the ormation of the bourgeoisie in Moldova and Poland. The fluctuations in the political and military area could not prevent the Moldovan-Polish trade, made mostly of Armenian merchants. Armenian merchants have practiced both bilateral
trade relations and transit trade, which has created an image
of oriental goods producer, known by Westerners as „Armenian
goods”. The attitude of rulers of Moldova to the Armenian merchants was tolerant andfavourablyinclined. Polish authorities have granted asylum and legal protection to Armenian merchants.
