dc.description.abstract The number of Anglicisms used in the Romanian language is considerable. Due to the market economy transition, development of computers and informational techniques the amount of English loan (borrowed) words related to many spheres of activity has considerably increased recently. The preoccupation to study the Romanian words of English origin is relatively recent. Although at the beginning lexical problems were given priority, later on the phonetic and morphological aspects were not neglected either. Logically, an increase in the number of borrowings involved an increase in the number of problems to be tackled, and implied a greater number of studies dealing with these problems. The borrowing process of English words is favored by the “openness” of our language to receive foreign words; at the same time it is influenced by the peculiarity of Romanian to keep its Latin character unaltered. The penetration of English elements into Romanian is a dynamic process, in a way the English borrowings into Romanian contributes to its re-Romanization, because most of the loan words are of Romance origin. en
