Any problem without a predetermined solution and every opportunity without a default path for success require creative thinking. Today an increasing number of employers seek to engage workforce with creative thinking skills. Despite being considered an important life skill, creative thinking (along with other no less important skills) is poorly highlighted or developed in the alternative care system. About half of institutionalized children in Moldova remain in institutionalized care for more than five years. Most children (76%) are institutionalized between the age of 4 and 12, while 6% are taken into state care before reaching 1 year of age. A large number of these children maintain contact with their relations and return to their biological or extended family when they are let go from residential institutions, usually at the age of 16 or 17. The community and family reintegration of these children is difficult, largely due to a lack of skills necessary for independent living.
