Abstract:
Octavian Luchian was one of those men who did not choose a career based on his
hobbies, but rather based on what was needed for his country. Nevertheless, apart
from his duties at work, many times impoverishing, he invested time and money
in numismatics, an area opened for amateurs and professionals alike. During the
interwar years, as he worked for the Romanian Railways, he traveled extensively
throughout the country and collected numerous ancient and medieval coins. Those
objects made one of the most important autochthonic numismatic collections, used
for the writing of the first major work on the Romanian coins.
