Odată cu înfăptuirea Unirii Transilvaniei cu România (1918) multe comunităţi ale greco-catolicilor au decis să treacă la ortodoxie. A fost şi cazul comunităţii din localitatea maramureşeană Vereşmort. Cazul examinat a demonstrat că trecerea enoriaşilor de la greco-catolicism la ortodoxie s-a soldat cu mari probleme de ordin patrimonial, moral, judecătoresc. Studiul demonstrează că statul român nu a fost destul de puternic în apărarea voinţei oamenilor, dând dovadă de anumite carenţe sau slăbiciuni.
With the realization

examined case showed that the transition from Greek Catholic parishioners to Orthodoxy has resulted in serious
problems of economic, moral, and judicial dimension. The study demonstrates that the
Romanian state was not strong
enough to defend the will of the people, showing some deficiencies or weaknesses.
