Abstract:
The present article deals with the study of emotion terms on the intercultural level.
Presently researches of this type have been carried out more frequently though the methods used to determine the specific cultural meaning of the emotion terminology are not homogeneous and most often are influenced by the cultural belonging of the scholar to a certain culture. This act leads to ethnocentric and non-objective results. Cognitive linguistics as a relatively new bra
nch of linguistics suggests the study of the intercultural phenomena to be done on the universal level by means of the cognitive prototypic scenario using the
Natural Semantic Metalanguage. This method of research can be applied to
emotion terminology as well when trying to identify the cultural specific semantic
difference of the apparently similar terms in various languages.
