This article represents a contrastive study of the collection of short stories “Racconti
romani” through the lens of existing translations in the Romanian language in the
Bessarabien region. The work “Racconti romani” or “Stories from Rome” was published
by Alberto Moravia in 1954. The study allowed us to assess the translations in terms
of fidelity in conveying a text from one language to another, considering the linguistic
and stylistic means used by the translator, the strategies adopted by each translator individually,
as well as identifying the difficulties that arise in the translation process and
determining the translation techniques used to convey the author’s message to the target
audience. The major translation difficulties identified are stylistic, lexical, phonetic, and
syntactic nature.
