Or, în continuare apar noi opere, inclusiv texte
The myth of Medea is one of the most valued ancient myths, enjoying popularity
to this day. The scope of this myth has expanded and grown, never ceasing to interest
people even today. In the doctoral thesis „Patterns of the Reception of the Medea Myth
in Contemporary German Literature” (2007), we looked at the exploitation of this ancient
myth at the end of the 20th century. However, we note that even in the 21st century
Medea continues to interest people of art. New works, including literary texts, and new
research on Medea continue to appear.
Over the centuries, Medea has appeared in many guises, adapted to the needs of
different eras. As a symbol of the other, as a symbol of the strong woman, as a symbol
of the scapegoat? As a symbol of the infanticide, as a witch, as a foreign/ barbarian, as a
symbol of the migrant, as a symbol of the irrational woman, as a symbol of the powerful
woman, as a „scapegoat” etc. Often perceived as a symbol of the „other”, Medea easily
adapts to the needs of different periods. The study is an incursion into the old and new
coordinates of the approach to the Medea myth.
