Abstract:
Today, not even a single periodical publication, radio or television station can
operate without well-selected programmed priorities, well-defined goals and well-formulated
tasks, meaning that the media can’t work without well elaborated editorial policies. The process
of defining editorial policies must consider a whole set of factors - social, cultural, political,
economic, a number of principles - that of guaranteeing freedom of expression, independence,
freedom and editorial autonomy, objectivity, pluralism and content diversity, balance,
impartiality, etc. Also, there cannot be neglected some of the editorial values, which are usually
created in the editorial teams - the necessity of respecting the accuracy and correctness, the
editorial integrity, the sources’ confidentiality as well as the responsibility for the content. The
media have a major role to play in maintaining democracy. Promoting an editorial policy that
corresponds to democratic values, written and audiovisual media provide a space for free
dialogue and fair information.
